When llamas come into the care of Southwest Llama Rescue, Inc. (SWLR), they are health-checked, vaccinated, dewormed, sheared and manicured. Some males are gelded. The llamas then go to one of our SWLR facilities, where they are prepared for adoption into pre-screened homes. All SWLR llamas are placed with a non-breeding contract.
Prior to placement, adopters must meet farm requirements and submit adoption forms. A facility check will be done by a SWLR member.
There is an adoption fee of $250 for any SWLR animal. If adopters can no longer care for an SWLR llama, the llama must be returned to SWLR.
We at SWLR hope you will consider fostering or adopting one of our rescues. We have many available for adoption.
We also have llamas that, for whatever reason, will not be adopted, but will instead by cared for at our rescue facilities. We need people willing to "sponsor" these llamas by donating financially for their day-to-day care.
Activities
We often offer activities to the public. Please feel free to contact us to join in. We offer llama walks and llama visits for individuals and groups. If you would like to visit one of our foster farms--including those in Tularosa, Edgewood and Silver City--please contact us. Since each farm is privately owned, arrangements must be made in advance.
Education
The members of SWLR are active educators in the community. It is our hope that through sharing knowledge about llamas and their needs, we can improve the lives of llamas and the people who love and care for them. We work with schools and youth groups as well as volunteers in our ongoing commitment to llama education.

Adoption
Llamas are herd animals and must live with other llamas. SWLR does not place solitary llamas.
